Based on the Lower South Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal, is Child Welfare South Africa Margate. Our organization was established in July of 1953, formerly known as Margate Child and District Family Society. 90 Percent of our clientele base is from the deep-rural areas where poverty and unemployment are dire.
Our vast area of operation ranges from Port Edward to Umhlangeni River Kwa Zulu Natal (St Michaels) and 11 kms inland. There are in excess of 300 000 plus people in the area. We currently have over 1100 case files, shared between 5 social workers. Of those we have and around 477 children registered as orphans and 369 are in foster care and are monitored on a regular basis.
Our statistics increase on a monthly basis. Many little ones are left abandoned due to the on-going HIV/Aids pandemic and neglected in various aspects due to high rate of employment. Clients are assisted irrespective of their race, age or religious beliefs and there are no charges for services rendered to any of our clients.
We provide services ranging from but not limited to:
- > Child abuse / neglect, abandonment
- > Reunification Removal of children to places of safety.
- > Court enquiries,
- > Foster care placements
- > Foster care Parental programs
- > Marital, substance abuse and rape counselling
- > HIV/Aids support and counselling
- > Providing of school uniforms (when funding/donations is available)
- > Assisting clients to obtain Identity documents and unabridged birth certificates
- > Life skills programs to scholars and members of the rural community
- > Assisting the destitute families with food parcels.(when funding/donations is available)
